The Glentleiten Open-Air Museum is the largest open-air museum in southern Bavaria. It provides wide-ranging insights into rural life in Upper Bavaria and the building culture and working life of the people here. The museum showcases the entire region of Upper Bavaria – from the southwest to the northeast of the region, from the area between the middle Isar River and the Inn River all the way to the Berchtesgadener Land and to Rupertiwinkel. Embark on a journey through southern Bavaria, in a compact form.
There are some 60 historical houses, workshops, mills and Alm (alpine meadow) buildings to be discovered here. On the spacious, varied grounds, you will find gardens, woods and meadows with old animal breeds. Again and again, you will be able to admire spectacular vistas of Upper Bavaria's mountains and lakes. Apart from the copious space of the grounds and buildings in the folkloric collection of the Glentleiten Open-Air Museum, you will also find more than 68,000 historical items, in particular, furniture, textiles, tools and household goods such as sacral items as testimony to the devoutness of the common people.
